What awards will be given at the tournament?
Trophies will be awarded to the champion and finalist teams in each group. Most Valuable Player awards will be awarded to one MVP from each team in a championship game, as determined by each team’s coach.
Are coed teams eligible for this tournament?
Yes - coed teams will play in the boys divisions.
What fields will the tournament use? Where will each age group be?
Tournament field assignments will be posted on the tournament website as soon as possible.
How will the division and groups be built?
Teams will be grouped into divisions and groups by competitive level as much as possible. Clubs and coaches should designate each team as pre-travel (strongest), average experience or less than average experience (weakest) so that like teams can be grouped together to provide more competitive games.
In the absence of any other information teams will be grouped by team name, such as FPYC A and FPYC B, with the assumption that the A team is stronger than the B team.
We recommend that clubs send evenly matched teams if they are sending more than two teams, since one of the three team will have to be placed in a more competitive group.
Are guest or travel players permitted?
No guest or travel carded players are permitted. Tournament rules include special eligibility requirements for the U16 and U19 divisions.
Do we need special jerseys for the tournament?
Teams can wear regular season jerseys if they have numbers on the back, and duplicate numbers are allowed on a team. Each team should bring a second set of jerseys or t-shirts in case of a color conflict with the opposing team. The alternate set of jerseys do not have to have numbers on the back.
Can 18 year olds sign their own medical forms?
Players that are 18 years old may sign their own medical forms. In all other cases, a legal guardian’s signature is required for each player, even if insurance policy information is not provided. Guardians and players do not have to insurance policy information.
How will MVPs be picked?
One MVP will be recognized for each team in a during the trophy presentation after a Championship game. Each coach will select the MVP for their team based on their own judgment.
Can players play on more than one team?
No. Players may play not register or play on more than one team in the tournament.
Can players play for another club’s All-Star team?
No. All players must have played the spring 2006 season w/ their sponsoring club.
Can players play in an older age group (play up)? Can any playersplay in a younger division (play down)?
Players may play in an older age group at the sponsoring club’s discretion. Players may not play in a younger division, regardless of the age group they played in during the spring season. Age group ranges are specified in the tournament rules.
Do player cards need photos? Do player cards have to be signed?
Player cards must be signed by the player. OnlyMaryland player cards are required to have pictures (due to Maryland rules).
When is team registration? What do teams need to register?
All teams must register the week before the tournament at the FPYC Clubhouse in FairfaxCity. Completing team registration during the week will allow teams to go directly to their first game on Saturday and enable tournament staff to resolve any roster or player card issues prior to the tournament.
Girls teams registration – Tuesday, 10 June, 7 PM – 8:30 PM
Boys teams registration – Wednesday, 11 June, 7 PM – 8:30 PM
Make-up registration – Thursday, 12 June, 7 PM – 8:30 PM
Any adult can register a team, and can register more than one team at the same time. Team representatives must have the following items to register a team:
- two copies of the team roster signed by the club registrar
- a player card for each player, signed by the club registrar and the player
- a medical release form with a guardian’s signature for each player under 18
Will tournament sites have restrooms and concessions?
Each tournament site will have several portable restrooms. All sites will sell the tournament t-shirts. Many tournament sites will sell packaged concessions (sodas, water, cookies, chips, etc.).
When and where will results be posted?
Results will be posted on brackets at each tournament site as they are received. Final results will be posted on the tournament website several days after the tournament.
Do we have to bring a full roster?
No. Teams do not have to bring a full roster, but tournament rules specify the minimum number of players required to start a game.
How many copies of our roster should we bring?
Teams should bring at least two copies of their roster to team registration. The tournament staff will keep one at registration, while coaches must have one copy of their roster and all player cards at every game.
Who can sign the team roster?
Team rosters must be signed by the sponsoring club’s registrar. Their signature verifies that all players meet the tournament eligibility requirements, which are in the tournament rules.
When will schedules be available? How will changes be distributed?
Schedules will be posted on the tournament website (www.fpycsoccer.org) as early as possible in June. Schedule changes will be posted to the tournament website and email announcements will be sent to club POCs.
Where can I get a tournamentt-shirt?
Special tournament items such as polo shirts and sweatshirts are only available by pre-ordering. A pre-order form will be posted on the website by mid-May.
Tournament t-shirts will be sold at the early check-in and at all tournament sites. U8 players and coaches will receive a special tournament t-shirt.
Are trading patches required?
Club trading patches are not required. We encourage all teams to bring enough trading patches to each game for a full roster and two coaches, including championship games.
How will we know if the game schedule changed because of weather?
Field playability decisions will be made on-site throughout the tournament. Field closures will be posted on the FPYC hotline – 703 591 3792 (FPYC) as quickly as possible.
